NFL.com Senior Analyst Pat Kirwan And Former Packers Pro Bowl Safety LeRoy Butler Speak At Banquet
January 28, 2005

NFL.COM SENIOR analyst PAT KIRWAN and former Green Bay Packers Pro Bowl safety LEROY BUTLER will address the five teams, coaches and host families of the NFL Global Junior Championship IX at a Welcome Banquet on Monday, January 31.

The traditional opening event of the all-star tournament, which includes a 36-man Team USA roster selected from Jacksonville area high schools, begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Schultz Center, 4019 Boulevard Drive, Jacksonville, FL 32207.

An experienced coach and NFL front office executive, Pat Kirwan held several positions with the New York Jets from 1989-97, including defensive assistant coach, assistant pro personnel director and director of player administration. Prior to joining the Jets, he was a scout for the Buccaneers and Cardinals and was the offensive coordinator at Hofstra University.

LeRoy Butler is a Jacksonville native who attended Robert E. Lee High School where he played under Team USA head coach Corky Rogers. He was a four-time Pro Bowl selection and won Super Bowl XXXI with the Green Bay Packers. During a distinguished college career at Florida State, he totaled 194 tackles, nine interceptions, two fumble recoveries, three forced fumbles, one sack and 14 passes defensed.

The pair will speak to the high school all-stars from Japan, France, Mexico, Canada and USA, who will meet for the first time before First Round games kick off at The Bolles School at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 2.

The evening will also feature a series of coin tosses to determine the opening possessions for the ten 14-minute games to be played on Wednesday. Each team captain will address the audience before taking part in the coin toss.

The NFL Global Junior Championship boasts an impressive history of honorary speakers at the annual Welcome Banquet. In previous years LSU head coach Nick Saban, Tampa Bay Buccaneers fullback Mike Alstott and broadcaster John Madden have all relayed good luck messages.

Editors note: The Welcome Banquet is by invitation only. Media please confirm attendance by return email.

Media should also apply for credentials for all NFL Global Junior Championship IX events if they have not already done so.
