Florida 3A State Champions Representing
Team USA Introduced At Alltel Stadium Before Jaguars Game
December 12, 2004
FIVE MEMBERS of the victorious Bolles School Bulldogs
who won the Florida 3A State Championship on Saturday
were introduced to the Alltel Stadium crowd before the
Jacksonville Jaguars took on the Chicago Bears.
Quarterback Riley Skinner, wide receiver Rocky Ross,
tight end Colin Peek, defensive tackle John Russell
and assistant coach Rich Thomann were on the sidelines
less than 24 hours after a convincing 42-21 win over
Tampa Jefferson High School.
The players took a bow at Alltel Stadium as representatives
of Team USA and the NFL Global Junior Championship IX,
which will be played at The Bolles School Skinner-Barco
Stadium during the week of Super Bowl XXXIX. The group
experienced the pre-game atmosphere before walking out
to midfield to acknowledge the home crowd along with
members of the Jaguars Roar cheerleaders.
“It’s overwhelming not only to be down
here on the field but also to be representing the United
States in an international event,” said tight
end Colin Peek. “I’m excited to have the
chance to pull my pads on again for a few more games
even though my high school career is over. I’m
also excited to be playing against players from other
countries like Japan and France where I didn’t
even know they played football.”
The group met former Kansas City Chiefs and Denver
Broncos Pro Bowler Neil Smith and Jaguars running backs
coach Anthony Lynn while on the sidelines. They were
shown on the stadium big screen and watched the Jaguars
and Bears during pre game warm ups.
Team USA head coach Corky Rogers will select his 36-man
Team USA roster at The Bolles School’s McGehee
Auditorium on Wednesday, December 15 at 7:00 p.m. Rogers
will choose players from high schools in St Johns, Duval,
Nassau, Clay, Putnam, Baker, Union, Bradford and Flagler
counties. To recognize scholar athletes, only players
who recorded a 3.0 GPA through their junior year will
be eligible.
Team USA will discover its first opponents for the
NFL Global Junior Championship IX when the full game
schedule is announced on Wednesday. Tickets for the
all-star tournament are available from The Bolles School
and Nease, University Christian and Mandarin high schools,
priced $6 per day.
