TEAM CANADA ANNOUNCES 28 OF ITS 36-MAN ROSTER FOR THE
UPCOMING NFL GJC IX IN JACKSONVILLE

MONTREAL, Quebec. Tuesday December 21, 2004
Team Canada Head Coach Danny Maciocia is proud to announce
28 of the team’s 36-man roster for the upcoming NFL GJCIX.
Of the 28 players selected today, 14 are from Quebec, 11 from
Ontario and 3 from Alberta. 8 players will by added to the roster
before soon. 3 provinces are represented this year.
The 28 under 20 years old players named today were selected
after the final selection that was held December 18 to 20, in
Montreal. The only restriction Danny Maciocia and his coaching
staff faced during the selection was the tournament rule that
limits to four the number of players from the same institution
that can be on a team. The coaches who made the selection are
currently working in Quebec (four), Ontario (four) and Alberta
(three). Since last April, more then 1000 players across the
country have been evaluated.
According to Danny Maciocia, the 97 players who attended the
December camp were all very talented and the decisions were
difficult to make: “The selection camp was really competitive
and the players gave their best to earn a spot on the team.
I am convinced that the players we chose are gonna be a harsh
opposition to the teams that they will compete against at the
next Global Junior Cahmpionship of the NFL.”
Among the 28 athletes selected, 9 are Team Canada veterans.
Maxime Tardif DL, will be part of the team for a third year
and Martin Gagné DL, Samuel Fournier RB, Olivier Turcotte-Létourneau
DB, Tony Testa REC, Simon Binder LB, Derek Dowdel OL, Marc Faria
LB et Christopher Milo K for a second year.
The team will leave for Jacksonville on January 25 and will
hold its training there from January 26th to January 30th. The
first round of the tournament will be held on the 2nd of February
when Canada will play 14 minutes games against the tournament’s
four other teams. The finals will be played on February 5th.
The NFL Global Junior Championship IX is an international tournament
and an official Super Bowl XXXIX event to be held in Houston,
from February 2nd to February 5th. Team Canada will compete
against national teams from Japan, Mexico, France and United
States. The team will play under the National Football Federation
of Canada (NFFC) banner. Team Canada won the Gold in 2000 and
the Silver in 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004.
