What an unforgettable journey for the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears! For the latest chapter in their partnership with Global Football, ONU headed across the Atlantic once again, building on the incredible experiences they’ve shared with us in the past. This time, Ireland welcomed them with open arms—and the team left with hearts full of new memories, stronger bonds, and a whole lot of pride.

From the second their plane touched down in Dublin, the Polar Bears were immersed in the magic of the Emerald Isle. They kicked things off with a guided tour of the iconic Irish National Stud and the historic Rock of Cashel, where ancient kings once ruled. The adventure continued along the breathtaking Dingle Peninsula, complete with a boat tour, a hands-on sheep farm experience, and stunning coastal views that took their breath away. Then came the legendary Cliffs of Moher—those towering, dramatic sea cliffs that left the entire squad in awe of Ireland’s raw natural beauty.

The cultural exploration didn’t stop throughout the experience. The team explored the vibrant heart of Dublin, participating in an unforgettable Gaelic Games Experience session at Trinity College, learning the fast-paced skills behind Ireland’s beloved national sports. They toured the world-famous Guinness Storehouse, discovering the rich history and craftsmanship behind one of Ireland’s most iconic exports. A ferry ride to the remote Aran Islands gave them a taste of traditional Irish island life, complete with stunning landscapes and timeless villages.

Between the guided adventures, there was plenty of free time to wander charming towns, enjoy local cuisine, and connect with one another on a deeper level. The itinerary perfectly balanced sightseeing, team bonding, and personal discovery—exactly what Global Football trips are all about. Players didn’t just see Ireland; they experienced it—learning about Irish history, traditions, and resilience while growing closer as a team.

The pinnacle of the trip came on Sunday, May 24 at Balbriggan RFC. Facing the spirited Louth Mavericks—a passionate and rapidly developing American football club based in County Louth—this exhibition game was expertly arranged through Global Football’s network and the dedicated efforts of Ty Henry from the Mavericks organization. A special thank you to Ty, as his leadership helped make game day so special!

In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Polar Bears delivered a commanding performance, powering their way to a dominant 53-6 victory. The game was more than just a win—it was a powerful cultural exchange. Both teams showcased tremendous sportsmanship, forging friendships that bridged continents. For the Louth Mavericks, competing against a strong NCAA program like Ohio Northern was a major milestone. For ONU, it was a chance to represent their university with class while soaking in the electric atmosphere of international play.

From the pre-game meal to the final whistle and the celebrations that followed, the day perfectly capped off an already magical trip. The Polar Bears wrapped up their time in Ireland with more Dublin sightseeing, a spectacular farewell dinner and show, and countless stories to bring home.

At Global Football, we’re thrilled to keep creating these life-changing opportunities for teams like Ohio Northern. Whether it’s standing atop ancient castles, cheering at a hard-fought game, or sharing laughs over new cultural experiences, these journeys build leaders, athletes, and global citizens.

Huge congratulations to the entire ONU squad and coaching staff. Thank you to the leadership team at Ohio Northern University, and Coach Andy Fries for joining us on this remarkable journey.
