Cathedral Prep’s Mike Mischler Named CAC Top 25 Coach of the Year

Cathedral Prep (Erie, Pa.) head coach Mike Mischler has been named the Catholic Athletes For Christ Top 25 Coach of the Year. The veteran coach led the Ramblers from starting the season outside the inaugural CAC Top 25 ranking of Catholic high school football teams across the nation, presented by Siena Heights University and Global Football, to the number three spot in the final 2017 ranking. The Ramblers recorded a 14-0 season and won the PIAA Class AAAA state championship for the second straight season, defeating Imhotep Charter (Philadelphia), 38-28. “Mike is an excellent coach who knows the game inside and out, and his historic two-year run which includes a school-record 28 straight wins and back to back state championships only validates that,” said Prep Director of Athletics Bill Flanagan. “What separates Mike from so many others is his true love and passion for the kids he coaches. Without question, that leadership style is the reason the Cathedral Prep football program has been so successful.” Mischler has coached 19 seasons and has a career record of 189-55 (.7780), including a Cathedral Prep mark of 172-39 (.820). His playoff record during a span of 18 consecutive seasons is 44-15 (.750). He has won 4 state titles in 6 appearances, has made 9 Western final appearances and has won 12 District 10 titles and 14 Metro-League/Region titles. “We are proud to recognize Coach Mike Mischler for the amazing success his Erie Prep team has had, but more so for the lifelong values he continues to instill in every player he coaches,” said Patrick Steenberge of Global Football. “Every person who played...
Global Football Exhibits at the AFCA Convention for a 20th Year

Global Football Exhibits at the AFCA Convention for a 20th Year

For the 20th year in succession, Global Football will feature prominently and engage with football coaches from around the world at the annual American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Convention. The Charlotte Convention Center in North Carolina hosts the 95th annual AFCA showpiece event from January 7-10. Global Football President Patrick Steenberge will be available to meet coaches and visitors to the Convention at Booth 204 in the exhibit hall, across from the new educational skills field. Since 1996, only Global Football has consistently provided amateur football players, coaches, families and fans the opportunity to travel and compete internationally with people of differing cultures, producing games and tours in 28 countries on 6 continents. More than 350 teams and 15,000 curious travelers have encountered a positive life-changing experience, while enjoying the ultimate team-building opportunity. “The AFCA Convention is always so special for us as it provides coaches the chance to talk casually about the opportunities available to them and their teams,” said Steenberge. “Taking on such a project is a major step for a school, so having time to discuss personally can be very helpful for coaches. In addition, we get to reunite with coaching friends we’ve developed through our 22 years of operations.” The AFCA Convention provides an opportunity for coaches considering taking teams overseas a chance to talk with Patrick, who will also attend the meeting of NCAA Division III coaches, as many of those teams have traveled overseas with Global Football since 1996. At Booth 204, attendees can discuss the cultural and sightseeing elements of tours with Leo Jenkins, who coordinates European operations, and the logistics of...

Dramatic CONADEIP All-Stars Comeback Secures Tazón De Estrellas Victory

The CONADEIP All-Stars produced a stunning and unlikely comeback to overturn a 24-point deficit and dramatically win the 20th annual Tazón De Estrellas (Bowl of the Stars) by a score of 28-24 in Tijuana. Game recap below; Watch the full game video here: Team Stars & Stripes looked to be cruising to victory when quarterback Chase Burton (Franklin College) tossed his second touchdown pass of the day, a 26-yard connection with William Woods (John Carroll University), for a 24-0 lead midway through the third quarter. But when the Americans were content to punt away possession and force the hosts to chase the game, the momentum swung unexpectedly. The CONADEIP All-Stars responded with a steady drive directed by quarterback Diego Ruiz which resulted in the Mexicans’ first touchdown of the day to close out the third quarter. Just when the quest for points looked to have stalled nine yards from pay dirt, Carlos Olvera made an impressive diving catch in the end zone from Ruiz. Then Kevin Correa muscled his way in for a two-point conversion to reduce the deficit to 16 points at 24-8. The All-Stars were now firing on all cylinders and drove from deep in their own half to the U.S. 35 and were helped into the red zone by an unsportsmanlike penalty. MVP Correa, who rushed 23 times for 187 yards, then ate up eight yards and Ruiz (24 of 32 for 199 yards, 3 TDs, 1 int) hit a wide-open Carlos Olvera in the end zone for a 12-yard touchdown. The two-point pass attempt bounced off the hand of a receiver and the hosts trailed...
