What an unforgettable evening under the lights at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida! On April 24, 2026, the 2026 Global Football Showcase turned the campus into a true international football playground. This wasn’t just any game—it was a milestone celebration packed with heart, skill, and that special energy that only happens when the world comes together on one field.
Mexico kicked things off in style, rolling in on Tuesday and jumping straight into the IMG Academy experience. Those kids got an extra day to settle in and were the first to hit the world-class training facilities, working out on the same turf, and in the same weight-room, as the academy’s elite athletes. For many of them, it was a dream come true—getting that early taste of professional-level resources, feeling the buzz of the campus, and knowing they were part of something bigger. It was incredibly special for those young men, giving them a head start that built confidence and excitement right from the jump.
Not long after, the Jamaican crew touched down Thursday night, and together Mexico and Jamaica formed one unified squad. For Team Jamaica, this was pure history—their first-ever international American football event. The NTFA Jamaica Select Team (Jamaica’s official national governing body for the sport) showed up ready to make their mark, stepping onto IMG’s turf with pride and grit. They went toe-to-toe in an 11-on-11 boys tackle showdown against strong squads from SFA and IMG Academy, and you could see their growth in real time. Both nations proved they belong on the big stage.
None of this happens without the right leaders stepping up. Special shout-out to the coaching crew who poured everything into these young men: Marco Gutierrez, who recruited and led this group with vision and passion; Clay Moss, Jim Webb, Florian Grein, Ernesto Orozco, Jeff Pond, Mitch Osadchuk, and Patrick Steenberge, who also supported these young men throughout the week. These guys were the heartbeat of the whole operation—on the field, in the meetings, and every step of the way. And let’s not forget the incredible Tye Pearson, who served as team mom and chaperone, keeping everything running smooth for the Jamaican families and making sure the athletes felt supported like they were at home. Mexico had a large representation on-site from their parents also, and without them none of this would have been possible.
The players were fully immersed in the IMG Academy lifestyle from the moment they arrived. They jumped right into IMG practices alongside the student-athletes, ran their own dedicated practice sessions to sharpen up for game day, sat through insightful recruiting talks and college-placement workshops, powered through nutrition sessions, ate together in the IMG dining facilities, and crushed a weight training session that left them stronger and more motivated than ever.
With athletes from Mexico and Jamaica combining forces, the team had to quickly pick up English and Spanish to communicate on and off the field. That language barrier turned into one of the best parts of the week—it created real bonds, forced everyone to work together, and turned the whole experience into a powerful cultural exchange.
Every detail—from the housing and meals to the overall vibe—was top-notch, and we have to give a huge thank you to IMG Academy for being such gracious hosts. They opened their doors wide and made every single person feel like they belonged.
And the community energy? Next level. This was the game of the week on campus, complete with a lively BBQ, a DJ keeping the music going, and fans from all over joining the celebration. It felt like one big family gathering centered around the love of football.
Right after the event, NTFA Director and Founder Jerome Harriott sent over a heartfelt letter of thanks that really captured the moment. He called it transformative—for the athletes, the families, and the entire Jamaican program. The accommodations, the competition, the relationships… everything exceeded expectations and set a new standard.
This showcase was never just about one game. It was about growing American football globally while building real community connections. And it worked. Mexico and Jamaica lit the spark, and now we’re even more excited to see which international groups step up next.
If you’re part of a program, team, or family that’s been thinking about taking that next big leap—consider this your invitation. The 2026 Global Football Showcase just proved the world stage is wide open. We can’t wait to welcome even more nations to future showcases at IMG Academy.
